Answer and explanation
- 1. Wolff — The caller introduces herself as 'Katrin Wolff, die Klassenlehrerin von Emir' and spells her surname straight away: 'Wolff schreibt man mit zwei F.' The note asks for the surname; 'Frau Wolff' is the same information. When a name is spelled on the phone, that is your cue: write it exactly as you hear it, here with a double F.
- 2. 7.45 — Trap: the first time you hear is 'acht Uhr', but it is followed at once by 'Das stimmt leider nicht': eight o'clock is the old, wrong time from the letter to parents. The correct time is 'Viertel vor acht', a quarter to eight, i.e. 7.45 (7:45 or 'Viertel vor acht' is the same information). Don't confuse it with 'Viertel nach acht' (8.15). A2 phone messages often correct themselves; write down what comes after signals like 'das stimmt nicht' or 'nicht … sondern'.
- 3. Regenjacke — Two things are mentioned: money and a rain jacket. 'Geld braucht er nicht': no money is needed, the entrance fee is already paid, so that is the distractor. What he should take is in 'geben Sie ihm bitte eine Regenjacke mit'. The note says 'mitbringen', the message says 'mitgeben': different verbs, same information. At A2 the task and the text often use different words.
In the real exam this part has five short phone messages; each is played twice and for each one you fill in a single gap in the note (5 points in total). The answer is a word, a name, a time or a number; don't write full sentences. The first time, listen for what the note asks; the second time, check what you wrote. In the official marking small spelling mistakes are tolerated, but a wrong or swapped digit is always wrong. In Level Exams' full mock exams the audio cannot be paused and plays the set number of times, as in the real exam; the player on this page can be replayed freely.
